Keyboard heaven
I’m a big believer in keyboard shortcuts. Of course, the major motivation for that fact is that I am too lazy to take on of my hands off the key board. This I feel most keenly while playing songs. Come on - why should I have to open the player window, click next song, and then go back to what I was doing!
So, I went searching for a plug-in for Media monkey that gave me access to the required global shortcuts of next/previous song and volume control. Found something that does a lot more. It’s called Hotkeycontrol. And it seems to do a lot more than just skip songs.
Here’s a list of features :
* Use additional keys on your multimedia/internet keyboard with Hotkeycontrol
* Display of volume and other messages on screen using OSD
* Use hotkeys in 3d games too (For ex: change volume while you play)
* Display any image or text file on screen with translucency
* Run up to 50 programs or open webpages, files, folders via hotkeys
* Macros to automate keyboard and mouse actions or type frequently used text
* Turn off monitor and Eject cdrom drives
* Shutdown/restart/hibernate/suspend your computer
* Can use single keys such as function keys instead of combination hotkeys
* Display list of configured hotkeys on screen by pressing a hotkey
* Extend features by using plugins
Of course, a certain someone will tell me that with mac, Quicksilver (this is one program I would absolutely love to see on the windows platform - as I have said so many, many times) would do all this with no problem.
Of course it would - but I am on a windows box and have to make do. I personally haven’t used this software yet (plan to do so today). But do have a go and let me know your experience.
Adios!
